The museum was established by the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) and officially opened to the public in 2004. It was created to document the rapid changes in the Himalayan environment and to preserve the heritage of mountaineering. The site offers clear views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, emphasizing its geological context within the Pokhara Valley.
