Historical & Ecological Origin
The island's name is derived from the word panggaw, a local fishing implement. Geologically, Panglao is an uplifted coral platform. It is part of a "Bohol Marine Triangle," an ecologically significant area housing high biodiversity, including over 250 species of crustaceans and 2,500 species of mollusks.
