Plaza Bicentenario is a public square located in Carabobo, Venezuela.

Visual Characteristics

The plaza features a central obelisk constructed from concrete and granite. Paved walkways of interlocking concrete blocks traverse the space, bordered by manicured lawns and rows of palm trees. The perimeter is defined by low concrete walls and decorative metal fencing. Lighting is provided by modern lampposts.

Location & Access Logistics

Plaza Bicentenario is situated approximately 3 kilometers south of the Carabobo city center. Access is via Avenida Libertador, a major arterial road. Ample on-street parking is available along adjacent streets, though it can be limited during peak hours. Public bus routes 1, 5, and 12 stop within a 500-meter radius of the plaza.

Historical & Ecological Origin

The plaza was inaugurated in 2011 to commemorate the bicentennial of Venezuelan independence. It was designed by the municipal planning department as a civic space for public gatherings and events.

Key Highlights & Activities

Visitors can walk the paved paths, observe the central obelisk, and utilize the seating areas. The open lawn space is suitable for informal recreation. The plaza serves as a venue for local festivals and public addresses.

Infrastructure & Amenities

Restrooms are located in a small building on the western side of the plaza. Shade is provided by the palm trees. Cell phone signal (4G) is generally strong throughout the area. No food vendors are permanently stationed within the plaza, but several commercial establishments are located on Avenida Libertador.

Best Time to Visit

For photography of the obelisk, early morning (07:00-09:00) or late afternoon (16:00-18:00) offers optimal lighting conditions with softer shadows. The months of December through March generally provide the driest weather. Midday temperatures can be high, making shaded areas preferable.

Facts & Legends

The obelisk's height is precisely 20.11 meters, referencing the year of its construction. Local lore suggests that placing a coin at the base of the obelisk on the anniversary of independence brings good fortune for the year ahead.
