The Lent District is the oldest part of the city of Maribor, situated on the northern bank of the Drava River. It functions as a cultural hub and historic riverfront, containing several of the city's most prominent medieval and renaissance structures.

Lent is located along the southern edge of Maribor's historic center, extending between the Judgment Tower to the west and the Water Tower to the east. It is a 5-minute walk from Main Square (Glavni trg). Vehicular access is restricted in primary pedestrian zones; parking is available at the Market Square garage or beneath the Old Vine House.

Originally established as a river port and trading post, Lent was the site where timber and wine rafts docked on the Drava River. Most standing structures date from the 16th century when the area was fortified against Ottoman incursions. Lent was historically the most dangerous part of the city during the Middle Ages due to its proximity to the water and the influx of transient traders and rafters. A local "secret" is the minor door in the city wall remnants near the Water Tower, which once allowed rafters to enter the city after the main gates were locked at night.
