Weston Bend State Park is situated approximately 3 miles west of Weston, Missouri. Access is via State Route 273. From Kansas City, Missouri, take I-29 North to Exit 20 (Weston). Turn left onto State Route 273 South and follow signs for the park. Parking is available at designated lots throughout the park, including near the visitor center and main overlooks. Public transport is not available to the park.

The land was acquired by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources starting in the late 1960s. The park was established to preserve the natural beauty of the Missouri River bluffs and provide recreational opportunities. For photography, early morning and late afternoon offer optimal lighting conditions for the river bluffs. The best months for visiting are April through October, with mild temperatures and full foliage. Spring (April-May) is ideal for wildflowers, and autumn (September-October) provides fall colors. No tide-dependent activities are relevant.

The park is situated on land that was once part of the historic Oregon Trail route. A specific point within the park is believed to have been a stopping point for westward travelers.
