The northern side is defined by the Eger Town Hall, while the eastern side is dominated by the twin towers of the Minorite Church, all featuring distinct Baroque and Neoclassical facades in cream, ochre, and pale yellow.

The square is located at Dobó István tér, 3300 Eger, approximately 0.4km northeast of the Eger Cathedral Basilica. It is a 10-minute walk from the central bus station on Barkóczy Street and 1.6km from the Eger railway station. As a pedestrian zone, vehicle access is prohibited; the nearest public parking facilities are found at the Agria Park shopping mall or on the surrounding Bródy Sándor and Kossuth Lajos streets.

The square evolved into its current form during the 18th century as the administrative center of the city under the bishops of Eger. It was named after István Dobó, who led the Hungarian forces during the 1552 Siege of Eger. The site sits on the alluvial plain of the Eger stream, which was channeled and regulated during the urban developments of the 19th century to prevent flooding of the town center.
