Historical & Ecological Origin
Fonimagoodhoo Island, where Reethi Beach Resort is situated, is a natural coral island formed over millennia through the accumulation of coral skeletons. The Baa Atoll itself is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, recognized for its rich marine biodiversity, particularly its coral reefs and the presence of manta rays and whale sharks in Hanifaru Bay.
Key Highlights & Activities
Activities include snorkeling directly from the beach or via boat excursions to nearby reefs. Diving is available through the resort's dive center, with access to over 40 dive sites. Water sports such as kayaking, windsurfing, and paddleboarding are offered. The resort also provides guided nature walks and bird watching opportunities.
Infrastructure & Amenities
The resort offers guest villas, multiple dining outlets, a swimming pool, a spa, and a fitness center. Restrooms are available in public areas and within guest accommodations. Best Time to Visit
The dry season, from December to April, offers the most favorable weather with lower humidity and minimal rainfall. For optimal marine life viewing, particularly manta rays and whale sharks in Hanifaru Bay, the season from May to November is recommended, coinciding with the southwest monsoon which brings plankton closer to shore.
Facts & Legends
The Baa Atoll is renowned for Hanifaru Bay, a marine protected area that experiences aggregations of manta rays and whale sharks during specific months, making it a significant global site for observing these creatures feeding on plankton. Visitors are advised to maintain a respectful distance from marine life.
