Alternatively, a paved road, Fjellstua, leads directly to the summit, accessible by car or tourist train. Parking is available at the top near the Fjellstua restaurant. Local bus services operate routes within Ålesund, with stops near the base of Aksla, though no direct bus line ascends to the summit.

Aksla is a natural geological formation, a part of the coastal mountain range that defines the landscape of Sunnmøre. Its composition is primarily ancient bedrock, shaped by glacial activity over millennia. The viewpoint infrastructure, including the steps and the Fjellstua building, was developed to facilitate public access to the natural vantage point.
