Bains des Pâquis, Geneva, Switzerland, Europe
The Bains des Pâquis is a public bathhouse and social hub located on a jetty on the right bank of Lake Geneva. It is one of the city's most popular year-round destinations, functioning as a beach in summer and a wellness center in winter.
Visual Characteristics
The facility is situated at the end of a long pier extending into the lake. It is characterized by its functional, mid-century reinforced concrete and glass architecture (from 1932). The site offers a panoramic 360-degree view of the Lake Geneva basin, including a direct, close-up perspective of the Jet d'Eau and the Mont Blanc massif.

Address: Quai du Mont-Blanc 30, 1201 Geneva.
Transport: Reachable via Mouettes Genevoises (M1, M2, M3 to "Pâquis") or Buses 1, 25 (stop: Navigation). It is a short walk from the central Mont-Blanc area.

Historical Origin
The baths were first established in 1872 as wooden structures on stilts. They became a municipal public facility in 1890. The current concrete structure was built in 1932. In the 1980s, the city planned to demolish and replace the site, but a massive citizen protest led to the formation of the AUBP (Association des Utilisateurs des Bains des Pâquis), which successfully saved the structure and continues to manage it today as a non-profit.
Key Highlights & Activities
Summer: Swimming in the lake, sunbathing on the concrete decks, and use of the diving boards and zip-line.
Winter: The facility transforms into a wellness center with saunas, hammams (Turkish baths), and massages.
Cultural Events: "Aubes Musicales" (dawn concerts) are held during summer, where live music is performed at sunrise. It also hosts "Silent Parties," poetry readings, and art exhibitions.
The Buvette: A popular cafeteria known for its affordable "Plat du jour" and its famous cheese fondue, often eaten outdoors on the terrace even during winter.
