Doctor's Cave Beach is located at the western end of Montego Bay's "Hip Strip" (Gloucester Avenue). It is approximately 3 kilometers west of the Sangster International Airport (MBJ). Access is directly from Gloucester Avenue. Paid parking is available in a lot adjacent to the beach entrance. Public transportation, including route taxis, frequently travels along Gloucester Avenue, stopping near the beach entrance.
Historical & Ecological Origin
The beach was acquired by the government of Jamaica in 1972. Historically, it was a private beach owned by a Scottish doctor who used it for therapeutic purposes, hence the name. Ecologically, it is part of the Montego Bay Marine Park, a protected area established to conserve coral reefs and marine life.
