Hendersonville's public bus system, the Hendersonville Transit, serves routes that stop within walking distance of the park entrance on King Street.

The park was established in 1927 on land donated by the Jackson family. The lake was created by the construction of a dam, and the park has since been developed with various recreational amenities.
