Historical & Ecological Origin

The park was established in the late 19th century, with initial planting and landscaping commencing around 1890. It was designed by architect Ivan Starov. The park's original purpose was to serve as a public garden and recreational zone for the growing city. Ecologically, it is a managed urban forest ecosystem, supporting a variety of bird species and small mammals.

No permanent food vendors are present within the park boundaries, but kiosks and cafes are located on the surrounding streets.

Best Time to Visit

For photography, early morning or late afternoon offers optimal lighting conditions due to the angle of the sun. The months of May through September provide the most favorable weather for outdoor activities. The pond is typically accessible for boating from April to October, weather permitting.

Facts & Legends

A local legend suggests that a specific ancient oak tree, located near the pond's northern edge, is over 300 years old and was a meeting point for Cossack leaders. While its exact age is unverified, it is one of the oldest trees in the park.
