Parking is available at the main base lodge. The nearest public transport is limited; regional bus services operate between St. Johnsbury and surrounding towns, requiring onward taxi or ride-share arrangements to the resort.

Historical & Ecological Origin

Burke Mountain Resort opened in 1961. It was developed to capitalize on the region's snowfall and topography for winter recreation. The mountain is part of the Green Mountains physiographic province, characterized by ancient, eroded mountain ranges.

Key Highlights & Activities

Winter activities include downhill skiing and snowboarding across 55 trails serviced by four lifts. The resort also offers snowshoeing and cross-country skiing trails. During the summer, the mountain hosts downhill mountain biking with lift-served access to trails. Hiking is also available on designated paths.

Infrastructure & Amenities

The resort provides restrooms at the base lodge and at mid-mountain facilities. Shade is available from trees on hiking and biking trails. Cell phone signal (4G/5G) is generally available in the base area but can be intermittent on the mountain. Food and beverage services are available at the base lodge and a mid-mountain restaurant during operating seasons.

Best Time to Visit

For skiing and snowboarding, the optimal period is from mid-December through March, dependent on snowfall. For mountain biking and hiking, the season typically runs from late May through October. Mid-morning offers good lighting for photography on the slopes and trails.

Facts & Legends

A local legend suggests that the summit of Burke Mountain is occasionally visited by a solitary, large owl known for its distinctive hoot, which some believe portends good fortune for skiers.
