Oryukdo Skywalk, Busan, South Korea, Asia

The Oryukdo Skywalk is a transparent observation deck extending over the sea cliffs of Oryukdo Island. It is located in the Nam-gu district of Busan, South Korea.

Visual Characteristics

The skywalk is constructed from reinforced glass panels, allowing a direct view of the water and rocks below. It extends approximately 15 meters from the cliff edge. The surrounding cliffs are composed of dark, weathered rock formations.

Location & Access Logistics

The Oryukdo Skywalk is situated at the southern end of the Dongbaekseom Peninsula. Access is via the coastal road, with the nearest major road being Oryukdo-ro. Parking is available at a designated lot approximately 200 meters from the skywalk entrance. Public transport options include bus lines 27 and 131, which stop at the Oryukdo SK View Apartment complex, followed by a 10-minute walk to the skywalk.

Historical & Ecological Origin

The Oryukdo islands are volcanic in origin, formed by lava flows millions of years ago. The skywalk itself was constructed in 2013 as a public observation facility to promote tourism and provide a vantage point for viewing the islands.

Key Highlights & Activities

Walking across the transparent glass floor provides a sensation of being suspended over the sea. Visitors can observe the Oryukdo islands and the surrounding coastline. Photography is a primary activity due to the unique perspective offered by the skywalk.

Infrastructure & Amenities

Restrooms are available at the base of the skywalk. Limited shade is provided by a small canopy at the entrance. Cell phone signal (4G/5G) is generally available. Food vendors are not directly on-site but are located near the bus stops and parking area.

Best Time to Visit

For optimal lighting conditions for photography, visit during the morning hours (approximately 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM) or late afternoon (3:00 PM to 5:00 PM) when the sun angle is lower. The best months for clear weather are typically April to October. High tide can enhance the visual impact of the waves crashing against the rocks below.

Facts & Legends

The name "Oryukdo" translates to "five-six islands," referring to the fact that the number of visible islands changes depending on the tide. At high tide, five islands are visible, while at low tide, six appear.
