The structure features two distinctive domed auditoriums, clad in a metal mesh that gives them a spiky, durian-like appearance. The main building is a large, multi-level complex constructed primarily from concrete and steel, with extensive glass facades offering views of the bay. Historical & Ecological Origin
Construction of the Esplanade began in 1996 and it officially opened in 2002. It was designed by the architectural firms DP Architects and Michael Wilford & Partners. The original purpose was to establish a world-class performing arts venue for Singapore, intended to foster cultural development and provide a platform for local and international artists.
