The beach is situated on the B13 Coastal Road, approximately 2 km northeast of the center of Grand Baie and 25 km from Port Louis. It is easily accessible via public transport; buses running between Port Louis and Cap Malheureux stop directly in front of the beach entrance. A paved parking area is available across the road, though it fills rapidly during peak times.

Formerly a quiet fishing village, Pereybere transformed into a tourist hub in the late 20th century. Ecologically, the lagoon is characterized by a lack of seagrass and coral near the shore, which contributes to the high water clarity and makes it ideal for swimming. The surrounding marine environment is part of the fringing reef system of the northern coast.

To secure a spot under the shade and avoid the largest crowds, visit before 09:00. Weekdays are significantly quieter than weekends and public holidays, when the beach is a primary destination for local families. The water is clearest in the morning before the afternoon winds pick up.

Pereybere is known locally as having the "bluest water" on the island. A common local tip is that the beach is one of the best places to find "confit"-pickled fruits sold by vendors-which are a staple of the Mauritian beach experience.
