Quincy Museum, Quincy, USA Illinois, North America

The Quincy Museum is located at 1601 Maine Street in Quincy, Illinois. It occupies the historic Newcomb-Stillwell Mansion, a stunning example of Richardsonian Romanesque architecture and one of the most significant late-19th-century homes in the region.

The Mansion

Built between 1890 and 1891, the mansion was originally the home of Richard F. Newcomb, a wealthy businessman and founder of the Quincy Paper Company. The house was designed by local architects Harvey Chatten and Ernest M. Wood. Its exterior is made of limestone, featuring heavy stone pillars, a wide wraparound porch, and a signature conical tower.

The mansion’s interior was constructed with elaborate hardwood detailing, including some woodwork inlaid with 14-karat gold. The first floor has been meticulously restored to reflect the grandeur and aesthetic of the 1890s.
