Background and Significance
The Multimedia Fountain Roshen is one of the largest floating multimedia fountains in Europe and a prominent landmark in Vinnytsia, Ukraine. It was inaugurated on September 4, 2011, and was a major social and cultural project funded by the Roshen Confectionery Corporation, one of Ukraine’s largest confectionery producers.
The fountain symbolizes Vinnytsia’s modernization and cultural vitality, offering residents and tourists a spectacular display of art and technology. It also serves as a public space for recreation and cultural events on the Southern Buh River.
Location and Structure
Location: The fountain floats on the Southern Buh River near Festivalny Isle (also called Campa Isle), in the city center of Vinnytsia. This location offers a scenic view and easy access for visitors.
Floating Platform: The entire fountain system is built on a floating platform that measures 97 meters in length and 10 meters in width. This large floating base holds all the water jets, lighting, and projection equipment.
Winter Operation: The fountain is designed to submerge underwater during winter months to avoid damage from ice and freezing temperatures. This innovative “hibernation technology” allows the fountain to safely pause its operation during harsh weather and resume in spring.
Technical Features
Water Jets: The fountain features a wide variety of water jets capable of shooting water up to 65–70 meters high, with some water jets spreading out as far as 140 meters in width.
Lighting: There are approximately 560 underwater LED lights that create dynamic color effects. These lights are synchronized with the music and projections to create mesmerizing visuals.
Sound System: The fountain is equipped with a powerful 3,840-watt sound system that ensures clear, high-quality audio to accompany the shows.
Projection Screen: A large water screen measuring 16 by 45 meters serves as a projection surface for 3D images, animations, and video content, adding a multimedia dimension to the water and light show.
Shows and Performances
The Roshen Fountain offers a variety of themed shows that combine water choreography, lighting effects, music, and 3D projections. These performances take place primarily during the evening hours when the effects are most visible but there are also shorter non-musical shows during the day.
Some of the most popular shows include:
Swan Lake Fantasy — A graceful ballet-inspired water and light show themed around Tchaikovsky’s famous ballet.
The Little Prince — Based on Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s beloved story, featuring enchanting visual storytelling.
The Nutcracker — Another ballet-themed show inspired by the classic Tchaikovsky composition.
