Thermal Park Aqualuna, Podcetrtek, Slovenia, Europe
Thermal Park Aqualuna is a 3,000-square-meter summer water park located in Podčetrtek, integrated into the Terme Olimia spa complex. It is specialized as a family-oriented entertainment park featuring high-intensity water slides and themed pools.
Visual Characteristics
The park is defined by a complex of bright blue and orange plastic slide structures, including the vertical "King Cobra" slide. The landscape consists of large paved sunbathing terraces, multiple interconnected pools with turquoise water, and expansive manicured lawns for lounging. African-themed decorative elements and thatched-roof structures provide a distinct visual motif throughout the park.
Location & Access Logistics
The site is located at Zdraviliška cesta 24, Podčetrtek. It is situated directly adjacent to the main regional road 219. A large, dedicated asphalt parking lot is available on-site. The Podčetrtek railway station is approximately 1.5km away, and a seasonal tourist shuttle connects the park to the central Terme Olimia hotels and the nearby village of Olimje.
Historical & Ecological Origin
Developed as the outdoor summer extension of the Terme Olimia thermal spa, Aqualuna utilizes local geothermal water sources. The water is rich in magnesium and calcium, though for park use, it is treated and maintained at temperatures between 24°C and 32°C. The park occupies a flat alluvial plain near the Sotla River, which forms the border with Croatia.
Key Highlights & Activities
The primary attraction is the King Cobra slide, known for its steep drops and 51-degree exit. The park features a Wave Pool, a Water Jungle for children with over 100 interactive elements, and multiple "Adrenaline Towers" with varying slide types. Daily animation programs for children and water aerobics for adults are standard during the peak season.
Infrastructure & Amenities
The facility includes multiple food courts, a specialized ice cream parlor, and several bars. Extensive locker rooms, changing cabins, and public restroom blocks are distributed across the park. 5G cellular signal is strong and stable. The majority of the pool decks and dining areas are wheelchair accessible, though slide access requires climbing stairs.
Best Time to Visit
The park is seasonal, typically open from June through early September. Peak attendance occurs on weekends in July and August. To avoid crowds, visiting on weekdays or arriving at the 10:00 opening time is recommended. Morning light is best for photographing the slide structures before the highest glare from the water surfaces.
Facts & Legends
The "King Cobra" slide was the first of its kind in Europe when installed, designed to mimic the appearance and strike of a snake. Unlike standard pools, the water used in Aqualuna's landing zones is thermally sourced, providing a distinct chemical profile compared to standard chlorinated municipal water parks.
