The Zhenhai Tower, a prominent feature, was originally built in 1380 during the Ming Dynasty as a watchtower. The Five-Ram Sculpture, erected in 1959, is a symbol of Guangzhou, representing a legend of five immortals who brought grain to the city.
Key Highlights & Activities
Visitors can explore the Zhenhai Tower, which houses the Guangzhou Museum. The Five-Ram Sculpture is a popular photo opportunity. Walking trails wind through the park's hills and around its lakes. Boat rentals are available on the lakes. The park also contains the Sun Yat-sen Monument and the Monument to the Red Army of China.
Infrastructure & Amenities
Restrooms are located throughout the park. Shaded areas are provided by trees and some covered seating. Cell phone signal (4G/5G) is generally available within the park. Food vendors and small restaurants are situated near the main entrances and within the park.
Best Time to Visit
The best time of day for photography, particularly of the Zhenhai Tower and Five-Ram Sculpture, is in the morning or late afternoon when the light is softer. The most pleasant months for visiting are from October to December, when the weather is cooler and drier. Spring (March to May) can be humid and rainy.
Facts & Legends
A local legend states that the Five-Ram Sculpture commemorates a time when five celestial beings descended on rams, bringing five ears of rice to Guangzhou, thus ensuring prosperity. The Zhenhai Tower has been rebuilt multiple times throughout history, most recently in 1927 after being damaged.
