Anse La Raye Waterfalls is a natural cascade located near the village of Anse La Raye in Saint Lucia.

This site features a series of tiered waterfalls descending through dense rainforest.

Visual Characteristics

The waterfalls consist of multiple drops, with the main cascade reaching approximately 15 meters in height. The water flows over dark, moss-covered volcanic rock. Surrounding vegetation is dense, primarily composed of broadleaf tropical plants and mature trees, creating a shaded environment.

Location & Access Logistics

The waterfalls are situated approximately 3 kilometers inland from the village of Anse La Raye. Access is via the Anse La Raye road, turning onto a smaller, unpaved track for the final kilometer. This track is suitable for 4x4 vehicles; standard vehicles may require parking at the village and arranging local transport or walking the remaining distance. Public transport to Anse La Raye Village is available via bus route 7. There is no designated parking at the waterfall site itself.

Historical & Ecological Origin

The waterfalls are a product of natural erosion and geological processes within the volcanic landscape of Saint Lucia. The surrounding rainforest is a tropical wet forest ecosystem, characterized by high biodiversity and consistent rainfall.

Key Highlights & Activities

Visitors can observe the main waterfall and smaller cascades. Swimming is possible in the pool at the base of the main waterfall during periods of moderate flow. Hiking to the base of the falls is the primary activity.

Infrastructure & Amenities

There are no formal facilities at the Anse La Raye Waterfalls. Restrooms, food vendors, and shade structures are not present. Cell phone signal is intermittent to non-existent at the site.

Best Time to Visit

The best time of day for photography is mid-morning (9:00 AM - 11:00 AM) when sunlight penetrates the canopy. The best months for visiting are generally from December to May, during the drier season, to ensure easier access and lower water flow. During the wet season (June to November), the falls are more voluminous but access can be more challenging.

Facts & Legends

Local folklore suggests that the pool at the base of the main waterfall has restorative properties. A specific tip for visitors is to wear appropriate footwear with good grip, as the rocks and paths can be slippery, especially after rainfall.
