Bourtzi Fortress is a small, pine-covered peninsula that separates the old and new harbors of Skiathos Town, Greece. It remains the site of a former Venetian fortification and serves as the primary cultural center of the island.

The landmark is a rocky islet connected to the main town by a short stone causeway. It is heavily forested with Mediterranean pines and bordered by low stone defensive walls. The site contains the remains of a 13th-century bastion, a neoclassical primary school building, and an outdoor theater constructed from local stone.

The peninsula is located in the center of the Skiathos Town waterfront. It is accessible on foot via the pedestrian walkway between the Old Port and the New Port. Historical & Ecological Origin

The fortress was established in 1207 by the Gizi brothers, Venetian lords who occupied the island following the fall of Constantinople. Its original purpose was to protect the town from pirate incursions. In 1906, a neoclassical school building was constructed in the center of the islet, which now functions as the Municipal Cultural Center.

Historically, the fortress was so effective that the population of Skiathos lived safely within the Bourtzi walls for centuries before pirate pressure forced them to relocate to the northern site of Kastro.
