The Brugal company was founded in 1888 by Andrés Brugal Montaner, who emigrated from Catalonia, Spain, to Santiago de Cuba before settling in Puerto Plata. The facility serves as a primary production site for their rum, utilizing sugarcane molasses sourced from the Dominican Republic. The original purpose was the distillation and aging of rum for commercial distribution.
