Public transport access is direct, with numerous local bus lines stopping at the Tampere-talo stop directly outside the building. The Tampere tram line also has a stop nearby.

Historical & Ecological Origin

The museum's collection originated from over 2,000 original Moomin works donated by Tove Jansson to the City of Tampere in 1986. It was initially housed in the Tampere Art Museum from 1987 to 2016. The current purpose-built museum opened on 17 June 2017, within Tampere Hall, which was designed by architects Raili and Reima Pietilä and completed in 1990. The museum's purpose is to preserve and exhibit Jansson's original illustrations, sketches, and the three-dimensional tableaux created by Jansson and Tuulikki Pietilä.
