Visual Characteristics
The beach features light brown, coarse sand. The water is generally clear with a greenish hue. Palm trees line the inland edge of the beach, providing natural shade. The coastline is relatively flat.
Location & Access Logistics
Pak Meng Beach is situated approximately 35 kilometers south of Trang city center. Access is via Highway 4046, which leads directly to the beach. Ample parking is available along the main road adjacent to the beach. Local songthaews (shared taxis) operate from Trang city to Pak Meng Beach, with services running frequently throughout the day.
Historical & Ecological Origin
Pak Meng Beach is a natural coastal formation. Its geological origin is tied to the sedimentary processes of the Andaman Sea coastline. The area is part of the larger coastal ecosystem of Southern Thailand.
Key Highlights & Activities
Swimming is possible in the sea. Walking along the shoreline is a common activity. Boat trips to nearby islands, such as Koh Mook and Koh Kradan, can be arranged from the pier at the southern end of the beach. Fishing from the shore is also practiced by locals.
Infrastructure & Amenities
Restrooms are available at designated points along the beach. Shade is provided by natural tree cover and some temporary awnings. Cell phone signal (4G) is generally available. Local food vendors and small restaurants are located near the parking areas and along the main road.
Best Time to Visit
The best time of day for photography is generally in the late afternoon, approximately 2-3 hours before sunset, for softer light. The dry season, from November to April, offers the most favorable weather conditions with less rainfall and calmer seas. High tide is suitable for swimming.
Facts & Legends
A local legend suggests that the beach was named after a large rock formation offshore that resembled a sleeping turtle (pak meng in Thai). While the formation is no longer prominent, the name has persisted.
