Constructed from local blue limestone, the edifice is characterized by its internal structural uniformity and the absence of a completed tower. The interior features a vast, high-ceilinged nave, 16th-century stained-glass windows, and significant Renaissance alabaster sculptures by Jacques Du Brœucq.

Historical Origin
Construction began in 1450 on the site of a 7th-century monastery founded by Saint Waltrude. Work continued for nearly 250 years. A planned 197-meter tower was abandoned in 1691 due to financial constraints and military risk; the base remains visible.
