In 2022, the zoo’s lion named Simba and a wolf named Akila were rescued and relocated to Romania for their safety. This evacuation was a complex and dangerous operation carried out by animal protection organizations aiming to save the animals from the war zone.

Later, Simba the lion, along with another lion named Mir, were moved from Romania to South Africa, where they were given permanent sanctuary in a wildlife reserve, ensuring their safety and a natural environment to live in.
