Historical & Ecological Origin

The park was established in 1998 on land acquired by the Town of Chapel Hill. Its development focused on providing organized sports facilities and passive recreational areas. The site was previously undeveloped woodland and agricultural land. The pond is a man-made retention basin designed for stormwater management.

Key Highlights & Activities

Activities include organized sports on the baseball, softball, and multi-purpose fields. Walking and jogging are permitted on the paved paths. Fishing is permitted in the pond, with a valid North Carolina fishing license required. Playground equipment is available in designated areas. Picnicking is possible at designated tables.

Infrastructure & Amenities

Restrooms are located in the main pavilion building. Shaded picnic shelters are available. Cell phone signal (4G/5G) is generally consistent throughout the park. No on-site food vendors are present, but convenience stores are located within 1.5 kilometers of the park entrance.

Best Time to Visit

For photography, early morning or late afternoon offers optimal lighting on the fields and pond. The months of April through October provide the most favorable weather for outdoor activities. The pond is accessible year-round.

Facts & Legends

A local anecdote suggests that the park's pond was once the site of a small, forgotten millpond dating back to the early 19th century, though no physical evidence remains.
