The cathedral is a massive three-nave hall structure characterized by high Gothic rib vaulting and thick stone walls.
Tower: The 71-meter tall southern tower features a neo-Gothic gallery added in the early 20th century, offering a panoramic view of the city.
Portals: The northern and southern portals feature intricate stone carvings from the late 15th century.
Interior: The space is dominated by a 17th-century Baroque high altar with late-Gothic sculptures from the workshop of Master Paul of Levoča.

Public Transport: Accessible via all major trolleybus lines (1, 2, 4, 8) and bus lines stopping at the "Hlavná" or "Trojica" stops.

Historical Origin
Foundation: The original structure was a single-nave church built around 1230, primarily serving the local German community.
Reconstruction: It was expanded into a three-nave Gothic hall between 1502 and 1515 by Master Ján Brengiszýn.
Restoration: Following multiple fires (notably in 1711 and 1887), the cathedral underwent significant reconstructions, blending Gothic foundations with Baroque and Neo-Gothic decorative elements.
Key Highlights & Activities

Organ: The cathedral houses a significant 17th-century Baroque organ case, though the internal mechanism has been modernized.
Infrastructure & Amenities
Connectivity: Excellent 5G/4G coverage throughout the square.
Shade: The massive stone walls provide a cool interior; the surrounding square has limited shade from young linden trees.
Facilities: No public restrooms inside; the nearest municipal toilets are located in the "Trojica" park area (0.1km North).
Entry: Entry for tourism is typically permitted outside of mass times. A small fee is usually required for the tower climb.
Best Time to Visit
The exterior is best photographed in the late afternoon when the sun illuminates the western facade and the tower. For the interior, visit between 10:00 and 15:00 on weekdays when the church is generally open to visitors.
Facts & Legends
The cathedral is unique for being a "co-cathedral," shared with the Diocese of Košice. A local historical fact is that during the Reformation, the church was used by Protestants for over a century before being returned to the Catholic Church. The building also survived a major bombardment in 1945 with minimal structural damage.
