Founded in 1927 by Jozef Nécsey, a local postmaster and collector, the museum's foundation consists of his private donation of over 2,000 artifacts. After several moves, the institution was permanently established in the castle complex in 1958. The site is located on the edge of the Danubian Lowlands, specifically on an andesite volcanic formation that provided both the building material and the strategic location for the castle.
