First mentioned in written records in 1355 as Thepla, the village developed as a landed estate belonging to the Trencin-castle_trencin" class="underline">Trenčín Castle lordship. Its growth was significantly accelerated in the 19th century with the construction of the railway and the establishment of one of the largest sugar refineries in the region (closed in 2000). Geologically, the area sits on Neogene sediments with nearby thermal spring activity linked to the Teplice fault line.
