The interior consists of representative halls with original vaults, coffered wooden ceilings, and glass-encased displays of historical artifacts.

Historical & Ecological Origin

The County House was constructed in the mid-18th century as the seat of the Trenčín County administration. The museum itself was founded in 1877 as the Natural History Society of Trenčín County. After several decades of moving between locations, the institution permanently occupied the renovated County House in 1980.

Key Highlights & Activities

The main exhibition, "From the History and Culture of the Free Royal Town of Trenčín," features a unique portrait gallery of the Illésházy family. The museum also organizes rotating temporary exhibitions and educational lectures in the main representative hall.

Numerous restaurants, cafes, and the city information center are located within a 50-meter radius on the main square.

The eastern-facing facade is best illuminated for photography during the morning hours. The museum is typically open Tuesday through Sunday and closed on Mondays. Visitor density is lowest on weekday mornings (09:00–11:00).

Facts & Legends

The museum manages the "Executioner’s House" (Katov dom), the only preserved Renaissance residential building of its kind in the city, where the town executioner reportedly resided in the 17th century.
