Historical & Ecological Origin
The park was established in 1909, making it one of Nagoya's oldest public parks. It was designed by landscape architect Kenzaburo Kashiwagi. The site was formerly part of the grounds of the Nagoya Imperial Palace. The ecological composition is a mix of cultivated ornamental species and native Japanese flora, adapted to the temperate climate.
