Uplistsikhe is an ancient rock-hewn town located near Gori, Georgia. It is one of the oldest urban settlements in Georgia, carved into sandstone cliffs.

Uplistsikhe is situated approximately 10 kilometers east of Gori, Georgia. Access is via the E60 highway. Turn off at the signposted exit for Uplistsikhe. The drive from Gori city center is approximately 15 minutes. There is a dedicated parking area at the base of the site. Public transport options include local marshrutka (minibus) services from Gori's central bus station heading towards Kareli, which stop near the Uplistsikhe entrance. The walk from the bus stop to the site entrance is approximately 500 meters.

Uplistsikhe originated as a pagan religious center, with its earliest structures dating back to the Early Iron Age (around 1000 BCE). It was later expanded and utilized by various cultures, including Hellenistic, Roman, and medieval Georgian societies. The town served as a political and religious hub for centuries. The geological formation is sandstone, a sedimentary rock, which allowed for its extensive carving.
