The World's Largest Tin Family & Pheasants on the Prairie is a roadside art installation located in Regent, North Dakota.
Visual Characteristics
The installation features a collection of large, tin-plated sculptures. The primary figures are a family of five, constructed from repurposed metal, standing approximately 15 feet tall. Adjacent to the family are several pheasant sculptures, also made of tin, varying in size from 3 to 6 feet in height. The sculptures are unpainted, showcasing the natural patina of the weathered metal.
Location & Access Logistics
The site is situated directly off US Highway 85, approximately 1 mile south of the Regent town center. Access is via a gravel pull-off area adjacent to the highway. Parking is available on the shoulder of the highway. No public transport services this location.
Historical & Ecological Origin
The sculptures were created by local artist Dale Johnson, beginning in 1997. The project was initiated as a community art endeavor and has expanded over the years. The pheasants represent the common game bird found in the surrounding prairie landscape.
