The hotel is located on an artificial island in the bay of Manama, approximately 1.5 km (0.93 miles) east of the Bahrain Financial Harbour. Access is via a dedicated bridge from the mainland. Historical & Ecological Origin

The hotel was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) and developed by Aref Investment Group. Construction commenced in 2011 and the hotel opened in March 2015. The island itself is an artificial land reclamation project.
