Kula Wild Adventure Park, Sigatoka, Fiji, Australia
Kula Wild Adventure Park is a specialized ecological and family entertainment facility located in Korotogo, on the Coral Coast of Viti Levu, Fiji. It functions as the nation’s largest private nature preserve and center for the captive breeding of Fiji's endangered indigenous species.
Visual Characteristics
The park is integrated into a 12-acre coastal rainforest valley featuring elevated wooden walkways that traverse the jungle canopy. The environment is characterized by dense tropical vegetation, natural stream beds, and specialized walk-through aviaries. Modern amusement infrastructure, including a steel "roller-coaster" zip line and multi-level water slides, is interspersed within the forested terrain.
Location & Access Logistics
The facility is situated on the Queens Road highway, approximately 8km east of Sigatoka Town and 70km south of Nadi International Airport. Access is via a marked turnoff directly opposite the Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort. Public buses operating the Nadi-Suva corridor stop at the park entrance. Taxis from Sigatoka Town reach the park in approximately 10 minutes. A paved parking area is provided for private vehicles.
Historical & Ecological Origin
Originally opened in 1997 as "Kula Eco Park," the site was primarily focused on bird conservation. It was established to provide a sanctuary for the Kula (Collared Lory), Fiji’s national bird. The facility has since expanded its scope to include the breeding of the Fiji Crested Iguana and the Fiji Ground Frog. It is the only facility in Fiji licensed to display and breed these protected endemic species.
Key Highlights & Activities
The park features three main "experience" zones. The conservation zone includes walk-through aviaries and reptile displays where visitors can participate in guided hand-feeding of sea turtles and iguanas. The "Splash Mountain" zone contains a 110-meter water slide and a dedicated children's splash pad. The "Kula Krazy Canopy Flyer" is a gravity-powered zip line that winds through the trees.
Infrastructure & Amenities
The facility includes a visitor center with educational displays, a small gift shop, and a café. Elevated boardwalks provide wheelchair and stroller accessibility to approximately 80% of the park. Public restrooms and changing rooms are available near the waterpark section. Cellular signal (4G/5G) is consistently strong due to the proximity to the main highway and resort district.
Best Time to Visit
Operational hours are 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM daily. The optimal time for animal interaction is during the scheduled feeding times, typically at 11:00 AM and 2:30 PM. To avoid peak heat and maximize usage of the waterpark, morning visits are recommended. The park remains functional during the wet season, though some outdoor activities may be suspended during heavy rain.
Facts & Legends
Kula Wild Adventure Park has won the Fiji Excellence in Tourism "Best Fiji Experience" award multiple times. It operates an environmental education program that has hosted over 10,000 Fijian schoolchildren to date. The park is credited with saving several island-specific bird populations by providing a predator-free breeding environment.
