Public transport options include the Red Rose Transit Authority (RRTA) bus route 10, which stops at the park entrance on Harrisburg Pike.

Historical & Ecological Origin

The park was established in 1934 through a donation by the Long family. It was designed to provide recreational space for the residents of Lancaster. Ecologically, the park is situated on a relatively flat plain with a mix of cultivated and naturalized landscapes, supporting common urban wildlife and plant species.

Key Highlights & Activities

Activities include walking and jogging on the paved paths, picnicking in designated areas, and attending concerts at the amphitheater during the summer season. Fishing is permitted in the pond. The park also contains a playground and a small zoo area.

Infrastructure & Amenities

Restrooms are available near the main parking areas and the amphitheater. Shade is provided by mature trees and some covered picnic pavilions. Cell phone signal (4G/5G) is generally strong throughout the park. No on-site food vendors are present, but several fast-food restaurants are located within a 0.5-mile radius on Harrisburg Pike.

Best Time to Visit

For photography, early morning or late afternoon offers optimal lighting conditions due to the sun's angle. The best months for visiting are May through September, when the weather is typically mild and outdoor events are scheduled. The pond is accessible year-round.

Facts & Legends

A notable feature of the park is its large, 1930s-era carousel, which operates seasonally. Local lore suggests the pond's depth varies significantly with rainfall, though official measurements indicate a consistent average depth of 8 feet.
