The sanctuary was established in 1996 by Dr. Henry Fraser. Its purpose is to rescue, rehabilitate, and release injured or endangered sea turtles, primarily Hawksbill and Green turtles, native to the Caribbean region.

Visitors can observe the turtles in their tanks. Educational talks are provided by sanctuary staff regarding turtle conservation efforts. Donations are accepted to support the sanctuary's operations. Viewing is typically from the perimeter of the tanks.
