Visual Characteristics
The monument is a massive brutalist structure featuring a central circular hall topped by a large, 23.75-karat gold-plated dome. A Christian cross was added to the apex of the dome in 2001. The interior is characterized by its solemn atmosphere, illuminated by a central light well under the dome, and houses an eternal flame. The walls are inscribed with the names of hundreds of heroes.

Historical & Engineering Origin
Inaugurated on February 28, 1978, to mark the 100th anniversary of Bulgaria's Liberation, the Pantheon was built on the site of the former "All Saints" cemetery and church, which was demolished by the Communist regime to make way for the monument. It was designed by architect Nikola Nikolov. In 2000, a small chapel dedicated to St. Paisius of Hilendar and a museum exhibition were integrated into the complex.
