Located in the center of the Old Market Square (Stary Rynek), the Poznań Town Hall (Polish: Ratusz w Poznaniu) is a Renaissance landmark and the historic seat of the city's government. It currently houses the Poznań City History Museum.
Visual Characteristics
The building is defined by its three-story loggia facade, decorated with portraits of Polish kings from the Jagiellonian dynasty and Latin inscriptions. The central clock tower features a mechanical display of two goats. The interior contains the Great Hall (Renaissance Hall), featuring an original 1555 coffered ceiling decorated with coat of arms, celestial bodies, and exotic animals.

Historical Origin
Originally a small Gothic structure from the 13th century, it was expanded in the 16th century by Italian architect Giovanni Battista di Quadro after a fire. It survived WWII with significant damage to the upper floors and tower, which were reconstructed by 1954.
The Mechanical Goats (Poznańskie Koziołki)
A primary tourist draw, the mechanical goats appear daily from the tower.
Timing: Every day at 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
Mechanism: The goats emerge above the clock to butt heads 12 times while a bugle call (hejnał) is played.

Facts & Legends
Legend states that a cook's apprentice, having burned a royal roast, stole two goats to replace the meal. The goats escaped to the Town Hall tower, where they began butting heads, attracting the townspeople's attention and leading to the Mayor ordering a mechanical version to be added to the clock.
