Public bus route #7 operates from St. John's to Jolly Harbour, with a stop within walking distance of the beach.

The beach is a natural formation, composed of sediment eroded from coral reefs and deposited along the coast over millennia. The surrounding area was historically used for small-scale agriculture before the development of the Jolly Harbour marina and resort complex.
