Driving from the city center takes approximately 20-25 minutes via State Highway 1 and Memorial Avenue. Ample free parking is available on-site. Public transport options include the Metro Bus Route 29, which stops directly outside the centre.

The Antarctic Centre was established in 1998. Its purpose is to educate the public about Antarctica, a continent formed by tectonic plate movement and covered by a vast ice sheet. The centre also houses a Hagglund all-terrain vehicle, a replica of a Scott Base hut, and exhibits detailing the history of Antarctic exploration and current scientific research.
