Visual Characteristics
The pond is roughly rectangular in shape, with a surface area of approximately 25 acres. Its banks are lined with mature trees, primarily mango and jackfruit, providing significant shade. The water color is typically a murky brown, influenced by sediment and local vegetation. Several small, uninhabited islands dot the pond's surface.

The pond is located about 2 kilometers east of Gournadi town. Parking is available on the unpaved area adjacent to the pond's western bank. No direct public transport routes serve the pond; local rickshaws or auto-rickshaws are available from Gournadi town.
Historical & Ecological Origin
Durga Sagar was excavated in 1780 by Rani Bhabani, the ruler of the Natore estate, during the late 18th century. Its original purpose was to provide a water source and a recreational area. The pond is a man-made reservoir, constructed by excavating earth to form the basin.
Key Highlights & Activities
Visitors can observe the local birdlife, which is abundant, particularly during the winter months. Boat rentals are available from local fishermen for a fee, allowing exploration of the pond's interior. The surrounding grounds are suitable for walking and picnicking.
Infrastructure & Amenities
Basic, unmaintained restroom facilities are present on the western bank. Shade is provided by the mature trees. Cell phone signal (2G/3G) is generally available. No food vendors are permanently stationed at the site; visitors typically bring their own provisions.
Best Time to Visit
The best time of day for photography is early morning or late afternoon when the sun angle is lower, reducing glare on the water. The most favorable months for visiting are from October to March, when the weather is cooler and drier. There are no tidal influences affecting access.
Facts & Legends
Local folklore suggests that the pond was created to appease a deity or as a means to store water during prolonged droughts. A specific historical detail is that the excavation was reportedly carried out using manual labor over several years.
