Public transport is provided by the free Vail Valley Connect bus system, with frequent service connecting Lionshead to Vail Village and other areas of Vail. The Lionshead Gondola is also a primary access point for the mountain.

Lionshead Village was developed as part of the expansion of Vail Ski Resort in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Its purpose was to provide additional lodging, dining, and ski access to complement the original Vail Village.
