Panchyan Deval, often referred to as the Panchayan Temple, is a significant religious complex located in the Tripureshwor district of Kathmandu. Built in the mid-19th century, it is a primary example of Shikhara-style architecture in the Kathmandu Valley.
Visual Characteristics
The temple is characterized by its massive white Shikhara dome, which rises prominently above the surrounding urban area. The architecture is a fusion of traditional Nepalese and Mughal-influenced styles. The central structure is surrounded by four smaller shrines, completing the "Panchayan" (Five Deity) configuration. The complex features intricate stone carvings and heavy wooden doors.

Historical Origin
The temple was commissioned by Mathabar Singh Thapa, the first Prime Minister of Nepal under the Rana regime, in memory of his mother. It was constructed around 1844-1845 AD. The site represents the transition of political and architectural influence from the Malla era to the Shah and Rana periods.
