Thun Castle (Schloss Thun) is a medieval fortress located in the city of Thun, approximately 30 km west of Interlaken.

Historical Origin
Built between 1180 and 1190 by Duke Berthold V of Zähringen, the castle was designed primarily as a symbol of power rather than a purely defensive residence. In 1218, it passed to the Counts of Kyburg, who added the upper levels. Since 1384, it has been under Bernese administration, serving variously as a seat of government, a prison, and a regional court.
