Vidy Castle, Lausanne, Switzerland, Europe
Vidy Castle (Château de Vidy) is an 18th-century manor house located in the Vidy district of Lausanne. It serves as the historic core of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) headquarters.
Visual Characteristics
The château is a refined, two-story structure featuring a classical limestone facade and a traditional mansard roof. Its design reflects the transition from vernacular church architecture to a secular aristocratic residence. Today, it stands in stark architectural contrast to the adjacent Olympic House, a high-tech, fluid-glass structure opened in 2019 that wraps around the historic building.

Historical & Ecological Origin
The site has a complex history, evolving from a Roman port building to a Catholic church (Saint-Sulpice) in the Middle Ages. After the Bernese Reformation, the church was secularized and converted into a residence. The current facade was largely established between 1771 and 1774 by architect Rodolphe de Crousaz for Jean-Louis Loys. The City of Lausanne purchased the property in 1960, and the IOC moved its headquarters here from Villa Mon-Repos in 1968.
