The Donauturm (Danube Tower) is the tallest structure in Austria, located in the Donaupark in Vienna’s 22nd District (Donaustadt).
Visual Characteristics
The tower is a 252-meter-tall concrete needle. It features a streamlined, tapering shaft topped by a multi-level basket containing observation decks and a rotating restaurant. The exterior is characterized by its industrial gray finish and prominent telecommunications antennae. At night, the tower is illuminated with LED lighting systems that change color for specific events.

Public Transport: U-Bahn line U1 (Station: Alte Donau) or U6 (Station: Neue Donau), followed by a 10–15 minute walk through the park or a short bus ride (Line 20A).
Access: Entrance requires a paid ticket. Two high-speed elevators transport visitors to the 150-meter observation level in approximately 35 seconds.

Historical Origin
Constructed for the Vienna International Garden Exposition (WIG 64) and opened on April 16, 1964. It was designed by architect Hannes Lintl. The tower was built as a symbol of Vienna's modernization and as a landmark for the newly developed Donaupark area on the northern bank of the Danube.

Observation Deck: An open-air terrace at 150 meters offering 360-degree views of Vienna, the Danube, and the Vienna Woods. On clear days, visibility extends to the Rax and Schneeberg mountains.
Rotating Restaurants: The Turm Restaurant (170m) and Turm Café (160m) rotate slowly on their axes, completing a full circle in 26, 39, or 52 minutes.
Donauturm Slide: A recent addition (2023) featuring a transparent slide on the exterior of the tower from the 165-meter level down to 150 meters.
Bungee Jumping: Occasionally offered as a seasonal event from the observation platform.

The base of the tower houses a souvenir shop and a ground-level bistro. The facility is equipped with high-speed 5G coverage. The observation deck and restaurants are fully wheelchair accessible via the main elevators.
