Dokk1 is situated at Hack Kampmanns Plads 2, 8000 Aarhus C, directly on the harbor. It is approximately 0.5 km East of the city center (Aarhus Hovedbanegård). An underground parking facility, Dokk1 P-kælder, is accessible via Europaplads and offers 1,000 spaces. The Aarhus Letbane (light rail) has a stop directly outside, named Dokk1. Numerous city bus lines (e.g., lines 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 11, 13, 14, 15, 18, 19, 23, 100, 200) stop at Europaplads, adjacent to the building.
Historical & Ecological Origin
Construction began in 2011 and the building officially opened on June 20, 2015. It was designed by the architectural firm Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects in collaboration with Kristine Jensen Landscape Architects. Its original purpose was to consolidate the main public library of Aarhus, citizen services, and various cultural functions into a single, modern facility, replacing the former main library on Mølleparken.

Each time a child is born at Aarhus University Hospital, the parents can press a button, causing the gong to sound throughout the building, announcing the new arrival to the public.
